National Senior Health & Fitness Day

 

It’s only two weeks until the National Senior Health & Fitness Day. On May 30, more than 100,000 older adults will take part in fun physical activities in more than 1,000 locations around the U.S. It is the nation’s largest older adult health promotion event, according to fitnessday.com. As a private duty home care agency we are in complete support of this year’s theme: Get Moving…Start Improving.

The purpose of the day is to help older Americans stay healthy and fit. Staying healthy and fit is important for people of all ages, but especially for seniors. Staying active and healthy promotes longevity, happiness and more enjoyment in life. As a home care supporter we feel that this is a day worthwhile for everyone.

 
 
Read the Fine Print

Private duty home care is closely associated with long-term care insurance, but do you know what is going on in the home care industry right now? Insurance companies are hiking up the yearly rates, some by up to 90 percent! So why is this happening? According to Terry Savage, author of The Savage Truth on Money, insurance providers got it wrong when they first priced the policy*. Here’s why:

  1. They didn’t realize how few people would let the policy lapse.
  2. They missed in their forecast projections as people are living longer and cost of care is increasing.
  3. There is an increasing number of people using their policies.
  4. Investments have had lower returns than expected.

Be careful when you sign into a policy and be sure to read the fine print. You don’t want to get bit if insurance companies begin to go belly up.
